What got you into technology?
As a millennial, I grew up during a time when technology was booming. From getting our first Apple PC as a kid, to the introduction of the first smartphones, I was immersed in the constantly evolving world of technology and knew I wanted to follow that as a career path; however, I also had a passion and skill for the English language. During my senior year of high school, I became aware of the technical writing field and that’s when I had my lightbulb moment of what I wanted to do with my career.
With this path in mind, I went on to study Technical Writing and Rhetoric in college. From there, I completed internships in marketing and writing to get my career off the ground. As a technical writer, it is often my responsibility to bridge the world of written language with complex, technical information that is difficult to fully comprehend. In my previous role, I wrote damage assessment reports on HVAC and refrigeration equipment in a way that allowed me to break down highly technical information into a more easily understandable format for individuals with limited HVAC knowledge.
In my current technical writer role, I am once again able to bring together technology and English by writing standard operating procedures and user guides on systems of record and procurement. I enjoy the challenge of taking such technical information and making it more approachable and understandable.
What was your favorite project you have worked on?
The project I’m currently involved in has been my favorite so far. The project involves transitioning over 40,000 contingent resources (non-employees) from all over the world to a new system of procurement. As you can imagine, it is a major undertaking with such a large and varied population, but it has been rewarding to see the transition occurring over the last year and a half. Many documents and user guides have been created as part of this project and I feel fortunate to have been a part of such a major effort.
Why do you choose to work with INT?
As anyone who is job hunting can tell you, it is likely that you talk with many recruiters. I met my INT recruiter through LinkedIn. She reached out to me regarding a position that didn’t end up working out, however months later she remembered me and reached out about a position that was a better fit for me that I ended up getting hired for. This was a singular recruiter experience for me, and I appreciated that she kept me in mind for other opportunities.
Since then, I have had nothing but good experiences with other individuals in the organization and have enjoyed my time with INT Technologies.
